  • Livonsaari community is an ecovillage founded in 2005. It's located in the Turku Archipelago, about 35 km from the City of Turku. The community owns an organic farm, about 60 hectars of land. There are currently some 20 people living in the community, of which 8 are children. There are some farm animals: chickens, horses, sheep, cats, dogs. There is a common vegetable garden, and also a cooperative farm that needs to be taken care of. During the summer, there are many visitors both from Finland and abroad. In the community, there are several building projects going on. Many of these are creatively using natural materials, such as reed, straw, clay and earth.

There will be 2 EVS-volunteers at the same time.

Accommodation: There is a room available in the common house of the community. There are other people living in the house. You might have to share a room with another EVS-volunteer. In the house, there are simple facilities, such as toilet, bathroom, sauna, internet and laundry (but no TV). Hot water may not be available at all times.

Food: Food will be provided in the ecovillage and the volunteers take part in preparing the food.

Pocket money: 120 euros a month.

Insurance: AXA-insured as part of the EVS-programme.

Other: We don't follow any specific dogma or teaching in our community. There are people from various religious backgrounds living in the community. There are vegetarians as well as meat eaters. Some people use alcohol, some not. Other drugs are not allowed in Finland. Living in a community like ours can be a great learning experience for multitude of skills, but it is also demanding in a way that you would have to be able to live and cooperate together with other people.

Tasks

You as a volunteer will be working on following duties: • maintenance work of common areas and spaces, both indoors and outdoors • helping restorating an old barn to a summer accommodation • participating in a rotating cooking shift • helping tending the vegetable gardens • helping tending the farm animals • helping arranging the common events during the summer • possibility to work on various construction sites • possibility to create a project with the local school

You would need to be able to take initiative and take responsibility of your work. You are interested in sustainable rural life far away from the town. You should be willing to share a social life with other members of the community. It's a benefit if you have some experience working on a farm or on construction.
