Job Summary:  The Senior Foundation and Corporate Development Specialist (Senior Specialist) is responsible for performing the full array of activities related to securing revenue from private foundations and corporations.  The Senior Specialist will also be asked to perform other appropriate tasks to support the Landesa revenue-seeking and program delivery function.
Reporting and relationships: The Senior Specialist will report to the Senior Director, Program Partnerships (SDPP).   
Availability: The Senior Specialist will be expected to work a standard workweek of 40 hours plus additional hours as necessary to get the job done. The position will require travel of up to 40 days per year domestically and internationally. 


Essential Job Functions:

  • In partnership with the SDPP and other fundraising team members, the Senior Specialist participates in and leads components of the design, implementation, and management of a comprehensive development plan focused on retaining, expanding, and enhancing foundation and corporate giving.
  • Researches and evaluates potential foundation and corporate funding prospects that align with Landesa’s mission and initiates grant requests aligned with Landesa’s program staff and goals.
  • Develops direct partnerships with foundation heads and program officers, and with corporate representatives.
  • Feeds and assists with the maintenance and further development of Landesa’s system for monitoring and reporting on grants.
  • Develops a thorough understanding of Landesa’s practice areas, the technical nuances of land access and tenure security, and the configuration of various Landesa project types (research, policy and legal reform, implementation, piloting, program management, and others), such that the Senior Specialist can create and assist other program staff in the design and description of Landesa programs and projects.  This would include use of Landesa’s Project Lifecycle Process and the related processes (including project abstracts, concept notes, scopes of work, project budgets, and monitoring and evaluation information).
  • Serves as a proposal manager, planning for and overseeing all of the activities and inputs associated with proposal development and production.
  • As required, travels and works abroad with Landesa program staff and/or foundation and corporate representatives in Landesa program countries, assisting with the showcasing, design, start-up, implementation, and close-out of projects.
  • As required, works with the Landesa Leadership Team, Communications staff, and Board of Directors on fundraising issues, revenue and planning and reporting, and program, project, and activity narrative reporting.
  • As required, writes and produces reports for funders, including compiling cost, revenue, and other financial information necessary for reporting to foundation and corporate funders.
  • If called upon to do so, supervises staff connected to or providing support to the Senior Specialist and the other members of the fundraising team.
  • When required, acts as a spokesperson on behalf of Landesa and prepares and delivers speeches and presentations to service organizations, business groups, boards, and other outside entities.
  • Generates and maintains accurate and current e-file and hard copy files of foundation and corporate donors and prospects including copies of correspondence, proposals, reports and notes on significant conversations or donor visits.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A deep commitment to the mission of a better, safer future for the world’s poorest people through land ownership and secure land rights.
  • Superior thinking, speaking, and writing skills, such that the Senior Specialist can, in a sophisticated and nuanced way, articulate verbally, visually, and in writing Landesa’s case for support, and can create and describe Landesa programs, projects, and activities for purposes of both fundraising and project design and implementation.
  • Leadership, collaboration, and consensus-building skills.
  • Interpersonal skills, especially in cross-cultural environments, and the ability to skillfully and appropriately interface with representatives of foundation and corporations.
  • Ability to work in support of and collaboratively with a range of people at all levels, including Landesa management and program staff, board members, donors, contractors, outside vendors and suppliers, and other administrative staff members, and to proactively seek ways to contribute to team success.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Suite of products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other software.
  • Commitment to Landesa’s core values of impact, respect, collaboration, dedication, and learning.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required. Master’s degree or J.D. preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 8 years of experience in performing most or all of the duties described above.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
Physical and Environmental Conditions: Work is primarily performed indoors with some potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to electronics work. This position does not require unusual demands for physical effort.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of places such as offices, meeting or training rooms, residences, or commercial vehicles; e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
