Tasks and responsibilities

Description
The Regional Manager, Fisheries Policy is responsible for the development and implementation of WWF MedPO fisheries strategy, integrated in WWF Mediterranean Marine Initiative strategy; provides the strategic lead and coordination on fisheries policy work in the context of the MMI; supports project development and fundraising for the fisheries strategy; develops and manages relations with the key fisheries actors and represents WWF in policy fora identified by the MMI strategy; supervises MedPO fisheries project portfolio and leads the implementation of projects as assigned to his/her supervision; ensures the monitoring of progress, evaluation of results and reporting to donors and to WWF Network.
Technical Focus
Planning, coordinating and leading WWF work programme related to fisheries and aquaculture in the Mediterranean Region. Detailed Tasks
- Analyzes global/regional and country specific fisheries policy and fisheries management context and relevant technical issues to provide critical input into the WWF MMI Strategic Objectives, Programme of Work, work plans and the supporting budgets and/or resourcing strategies;
- Implements and monitors programmes of work involving the development of the approach, evidence based strategies, and related tools, methodologies and the supporting system/database, monitoring and reporting frameworks;
- Provides technical and policy advice to WWF Offices within the MMI and technical support to decentralized offices in the development and implementation of their programmes;
- Plans, manages, or leads highly specialized or multi-disciplinary teams;
- Leads and coordinates, WWF relations building and participation in Regional committees, project teams, and working groups, and/or provides technical leadership/secretariat services on technical networks and/or international technical policy and standard setting bodies;
- Represents the Organization at international meetings and conferences, identifies and implements strategic partnerships;
- Advocates best practices and increased policy dialogue and develops and negotiates effective working relationships/consensus and agreements with international and national stakeholders;

Required Qualifications
-A university degree and technical proficiency in marine conservation, fisheries management, policy development, or relevant field;
- At least 7 to 10 years professional experience in fisheries management, of which at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, with demonstrated success in managing multi-disciplinary teams and multiple donor budgets;
- Proven experience in marine international conservation issues, specifically in global and European policies and policy development, negotiations with internal and external stakeholders, and design and activation of strategic international partnerships;
- Experience in ecosystem based management, small scale fisheries, and integrated ocean management, including capacity to engage with public and private stakeholders and address participatory management processes;
- Preference will be given to those with field experience, specifically in working with fishermen and local fisheries associations and with proven knowledge of the Mediterranean region;
- Proficiency in English and French, additional languages will be considered an asset;
- Familiarity with WWF network will be considered an advantage.

EFI is seeking a Private Sector Expert to improve understanding and develop support mechanisms for Small and Medium Enterprises to comply with changing market requirements for timber in Southeast Asia.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Carry out a diagnosis of the small-scale and informal forest sector in the greater Mekong sub-region and an analysis of regulatory obstacles and make recommendations where appropriate.
- Build capacity of private sector and trade associations for advocating the integration and communication of the results of these analysis into the VPA processes and the broader FLEGT objectives.
- Support the formation of platforms of trade associations at the country level and the selection of country based trade specialists, including related capacity building.
- Coordinate, atune and synergize with related initiatives working on SMEs in the region including ASEAN private sector networks
- Serve as private sector focal point within the EU FLEGT Facility
Qualifications
- MSc or higher university degree in natural resource economics, public policy, business administration or related suitable discipline.

The Department of Plant Sciences (IPV) at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has a vacant 3 year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in molecular biology with focus on epigenetic mechanisms underlying the impact of climatic conditions during embryogenesis in Norway spruce on progeny plants (epigenetic memory).
IPV has approximately 80 employees, including permanent and temporary scientific positions, PhD students, post doctors, technicians and administrative positions.
The Department has six sections: Agroecology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Protection, Plant Biology and - Biotechnology, Food Crops, and Environmental Horticulture. Plant research at IPV covers a wide range of fields within molecular biology, genetics, genomics, plant physiology, plant breeding, agronomy, horticulture, landscape restoration and arboriculture.
Main tasks;

The REDD+ Expert will provide technical as well as strategic advice and inputs to the activities supported by the EU REDD Facility in Asia, currently Indonesia, Laos and Vietnam. The REDD+ Expert will be responsible for:
- Managing and supervising technical assistance projects developed by the EU REDD Facility in the field of land-use governance, tenure and land-use planning as well as removing deforestation from commodity production, in support of REDD+ and FLEGT national processes.
- Providing technical support to a broad range of stakeholders on matters related to FLEGT and REDD+ processes and their interactions, land-use governance, tenure and land-use planning, addressing drivers of legal and illegal forest conversion, removing deforestation from commodity production, drawing on lessons from the work developed by the EU REDD Facility and the EU FLEGT Facility in Africa, Asia and America.
- Increasing the understanding and raise awareness of the potential for REDD+ and FLEGT interactions in the region, document and share experiences from partner countries in improving land use governance through their REDD+ and FLEGT national processes with a broad array of stakeholders, including partner country stakeholders, the European Union and its member states, donors, multilateral partners and other constituents and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for the following: 1. Develop and oversee the
Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Component of the Ecosystem Management Programme: Develop, design and advocate concepts of the programme; Enhance inter-linkages among stakeholders on biodiversity and ecosystem services related matters; Develop policy advisory services for various decision makers; Develop and oversee biodiversity and ecosystem services projects in light of the seven thematic priority areas of UNEP. 2. Provide leadership and guidance to the conceptualization, formulation and completion of special initiatives on biodiversity and ecosystem services, including efforts to address the illegal trade in wildlife, to increase land and seascape connectivity, and the Great Apes Survival Partnership (GRASP); Enhance collaboration and partnership between stakeholders in the delivery of UNEP's programme of work, including with the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), and the biodiversity-related Multilateral Environmental Agreements; Promote integrated ecosystem strategies and analyze and resolve challenges in the implementation of these strategies; 3. Oversee the work of the three Units of the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Branch, (Biodiversity Unit, Ecosystem Services Economics Unit, and Biodiversity, Biosafety and Land Degradation GEF Unit) providing guidance and oversight to these units' implementation of the UNEP programme of work. 4. Formulate policies, strategies, actions and provide policy advice and recommendations to the Director; Formulate a biodiversity programme of work for DEPI; Design UNEP strategy for biodiversity and ecosystem services; Analyze developments and provide advice for UNEP's strategic direction and intervention. Contribute to UNEP's efforts in strengthening the science policy interface on biodiversity and ecosystem services. 5. Facilitate substantive and organizational discussions in the area of biodiversity and ecosystem services; Cooperate with other divisions, clusters and regions within UNEP for provision of expert advice and support in the field of biodiversity and ecosystem services. 6. Develop and implement projects for funding in support of the work of the Branch; Develop relationships with potential funding sources; Analyze and monitor the trends in international development cooperation on the impacts of their decision on UNEP's funding-strategies for biodiversity and ecosystem services related activities. 7. Oversee the management of administrative, budget and personnel operations of the Branch; Oversee and contribute to the preparation of reports for presentation to inter-governmental bodies such as the Committee of Permanent Representatives, the United Nations Environment Assembly, the UN General Assembly and other policy-making organs. 8. Education
| |||||||
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in natural resources management, environmental management or other relevant related area is required. A relevant first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
| |||||||
A minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in programme/project management in the field of natural resources management, or related field is required. At least five years experience at the international level and three years in a supervisory capacity is required. Experience with the GEF is desired.

Languages
| |||||||
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in French and knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
